I'm always chatting to dads at our ForestTots sessions, and we usually get chatting about Dad-activities that you can do in the area. There's a ton of things to do and services provided in Southend that are aimed at Dads that are really not taken advantage of as much as I think they should be! Father's Day is just around the corner, I thought I'd write a guide about some Dad stuff in Southend.
Firstly, let's talk TrustLinks. They run a Dads Club every Saturday morning at their Westcliff space (47 Fairfax Drive) and their Shoebury space (254 Elm Road). It runs between 10am - 12noon, and they welcome you with a cup of tea and a sausage sandwich! There's loads of outdoor space for your tot to run around, a sand pit, pond, chickens (and an indoor area with crafts and toys in case the heavens open). It's part of A Better Start Southend's "Families Growing Together" scheme. More info can be found on their website here or on their Facebook here.
Speaking of A Better Start Southend: I've been to some amazing Dad-focused events with these guys! They've got a budget for Dads that, again, more people need to know about.
In the past, they have organised a Dad's Buggy Walk to see the 'Herd in the City' elephant trail - culminating in some free pizza at TwentyOne, an IndiRock free climb evening with a toastie, and a Dad's Health Matters evening of comedy and Dad-Chat!
They have also hosted Rugby Taster sessions, Walk in the Park, Maths with Dad and they've got loads more planned. Here are a list of things happening in the coming months:
All sessions are for dads of tots aged 0-3 in any of the 6 Southend wards. To book up any of these, drop Sam an email at spooley@savs-southend.co.uk!
One of the charities that I heard about on the Dads Health Matters evening was Andy's Man Club, which is an inspiring group that meet every Monday at 7pm at Roots Hall, Southend. It's aimed at eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health in men, and was set up as a suicide prevention charity. It's judgement-free, confidential and free to attend. More details here!
I want to keep this blog post updated, so if you know of any events aimed at dads of tots in Southend, then please drop me a message or email me at michael@foresttots.uk and I'll add it on!
Thanks for reading. Dad's rock!
